Equipment:
The equipment chosen for the piece was all essential in creating the desired effect of a media piece in the genre of mystery. We tried Various pieces of equipment, some worked in our favor and others did not. From research done we knew what we wanted the piece to look like and some equipment allowed us to achieve this.
Mono pod:
The Mono pod was one piece of equipment that we expected to work well for us as we wanted a shot where Miles was followed by an over the shoulder shot. This proved to be more difficult than expected, to operate the mono pod effectively the camera man would have to have a steady hand, shooting an over the shoulder shot while walking and doing it steadily was found to be extremely difficult. Also issues with the height at which the camera was held at became apparent, to have Miles in the shot was difficult to do as the height of the camera man and the height the mono pod could extend and retract too were both awkward and did not give a suitable shot. For these reasons we did not use the mono pod for our media piece.
Using the Mono pod, although difficult and the group not using it in the final production the mono pod was a valuable learning curve as this was new equipment to us and we attempted to stray away from more traditional/easier methods of filming.
Fish Eye Lens:
This piece of equipment made the most difference, it met all criteria of what we wanted. It created exactly what the group envisioned, it created the perfect point of view shot. We needed a point of view shot to embody the first person concept in parts of the piece, the lens resembles what we would see with our own eyes therefore creating the first person effect. It's an attachment to the camera, to make the difference apparent within the piece shots were taken with the conventional camera lens and others with the fish eye lens this makes the distinction between first person and third person clear. The whole idea of using the fish eye lens was to place the audience in the characters shoes and this is exactly what was achieved.
Again we had not used this piece of equipment before and it was unfamiliar to us, it did precisely what we needed. It wouldn't have been possible to create what we intended without this piece of equipment, so it was detrimental to our production. We wanted to engage the audience further and the fish eye did this by altering how everything is seen.
